What is ayatana-indicator-application
ayatana-indicator-application is:
This Ayatana System Indicator takes menus from external applications and
place them in the panel / designated indicator area.
An application supporting indicator based panel applets provides its
menu tree via the DBus bus org.kde.StatusNotifierWatcher (SNI). An
application providing such an indicator item is called an AppIndicator.
This package provides an SNI AppIndicator service that proxies panel
menu items from AppIndicator application to a renderer supporting the
Ayatana System Indicators implementation. It accepts connections from
any application built against either of the available appindicator
libraries: Ayatana AppIndicators, Ubuntu AppIndicators, or Qt’s
QSystemTrayIcon API.
Ayatana Indicators are only available on desktop environments that
provide a renderer for system indicators (such as MATE, Xfce, Lomiri,
etc.).
There are three methods to install ayatana-indicator-application
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ayatana-indicator-application Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ayatana-indicator-application
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ayatana-indicator-application
Install ayatana-indicator-application Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ayatana-indicator-application
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ayatana-indicator-application
Install ayatana-indicator-application Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ayatana-indicator-application
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ayatana-indicator-application
How To Uninstall ayatana-indicator-application on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the ayatana-indicator-application
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ayatana-indicator-application
Uninstall ayatana-indicator-application And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ayatana-indicator-application
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ayatana-indicator-application
Remove ayatana-indicator-application Configurations and Data
To remove ayatana-indicator-application
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ayatana-indicator-application
Remove ayatana-indicator-application configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ayatana-indicator-application
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ayatana-indicator-application
