In this tutorial we learn how to install barrier on CentOS 8.

What is barrier

Barrier is software that mimics the functionality of a KVM switch, which historically would allow you to use a single keyboard and mouse to control multiple computers. Barrier does this in software, allowing you to tell it which machine to control by moving your mouse to the edge of the screen, or by using a key press to switch focus to a different system.

We can use yum or dnf to install barrier on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install barrier.

Install barrier on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

Metadata cache created.

After updating yum database, We can install barrier using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install barrier

Install barrier on CentOS 8 Using yum

After updating yum database, We can install barrier using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install barrier

How To Uninstall barrier on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the barrier package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove barrier
