Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install batctl on Kali Linux.
What is batctl
batctl is:
This package contains batctl, which serves as configuration utility,
monitoring and debugging application. It allows one to modify the module
parameters, reading the logfiles and tables, decapsulate embedded packets on
the fly, traceroute to and ping mac addresses, generate sequence number graphs
for the Layer 2 Mesh B.A.T.M.A.N.
B.A.T.M.A.N. (better approach to mobile ad-hoc networking) is a new routing
protocol for multi-hop ad-hoc mesh networks. B.A.T.M.A.N.-advanced is the
implementation of this protocol on ISO/OSI Layer 2, allowing mesh networks to
be used as a virtual switch. With this approach, LANs and WANs can be easily
integrated, and more protocols (like DHCP, IPv6) are supported.
There are three methods to install batctl on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install batctl Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install batctl using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install batctlInstall batctl Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install batctl using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install batctlInstall batctl Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install batctl using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install batctl
How To Uninstall batctl on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the batctl package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove batctl
Uninstall batctl And Its Dependencies
To uninstall batctl and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove batctl
Remove batctl Configurations and Data
To remove batctl configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge batctl
Remove batctl configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove batctl configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge batctl
