Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install beav on Kali Linux.
What is beav
beav is:
beav (Binary Editor And Viewer) is an editor for binary files containing
arbitrary data. Text file editors, on the other hand, expect the files they
edit to contain textual data, and/or to be formatted in a certain way (e.g.
lines of printable characters delimited by newline characters).
With beav, you can edit a file in HEX, ASCII, EBCDIC, OCTAL, DECIMAL, and
BINARY. You can display but not edit data in FLOAT mode. You can search or
search and replace in any of these modes. Data can be displayed in BYTE,
WORD, or DOUBLE WORD formats. While displaying WORDS or DOUBLE WORDS the
data can be displayed in INTEL’s or MOTOROLA’s byte ordering. Data of any
length can be inserted at any point in the file. The source of this data
can be the keyboard, another buffer, or a file. Any data that is being
displayed can be sent to a printer in the displayed format. Files that are
bigger than memory can be handled.
There are three methods to install beav on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install beav Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install beav using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install beavInstall beav Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install beav using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install beavInstall beav Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install beav using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install beav
How To Uninstall beav on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the beav package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove beav
Uninstall beav And Its Dependencies
To uninstall beav and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove beav
Remove beav Configurations and Data
To remove beav configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge beav
Remove beav configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove beav configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge beav
