Beets is a media library management system for obsessive-compulsive music
geeks.
The purpose of beets is to get your music collection right once and for all.
It catalogs your collection, automatically improving its metadata as it goes
using the MusicBrainz database. It then provides a set of tools for
manipulating and accessing your music.
Beets also includes a music player that implements the MPD protocol, so you
can play music in your beets library using any MPD client.
There are three methods to install beets
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install beets Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install beets
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install beets

After updating apt database, We can install beets
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install beets
Install beets Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install beets
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install beets
How To Uninstall beets on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the beets
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove beets
Uninstall beets And Its Dependencies
To uninstall beets
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove beets
Remove beets Configurations and Data
To remove beets
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge beets
Remove beets configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove beets
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge beets
