Introduction

on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is bowtie
bowtie is:
This package addresses the problem to interpret the results from the
latest (2010) DNA sequencing technologies. Those will yield fairly
short stretches and those cannot be interpreted directly. It is the
challenge for tools like Bowtie to give a chromosomal location to the
short stretches of DNA sequenced per run.
Bowtie aligns short DNA sequences (reads) to the human genome at a rate
of over 25 million 35-bp reads per hour. Bowtie indexes the genome with
a Burrows-Wheeler index to keep its memory footprint small: typically
about 2.2 GB for the human genome (2.9 GB for paired-end).
There are three methods to install bowtie
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install bowtie Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install bowtie
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install bowtie
Install bowtie Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install bowtie
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install bowtie
Install bowtie Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install bowtie
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install bowtie
How To Uninstall bowtie on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the bowtie
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove bowtie
Uninstall bowtie And Its Dependencies
To uninstall bowtie
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove bowtie
Remove bowtie Configurations and Data
To remove bowtie
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge bowtie
Remove bowtie configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove bowtie
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge bowtie
