In this tutorial we learn how to install capnproto on CentOS 8.

What is capnproto

Capu2019n Proto is an insanely fast data interchange format and capability-based RPC system. Think JSON, except binary. Or think Protocol Buffers, except faster. In fact, in benchmarks, Capu2019n Proto is INFINITY TIMES faster than Protocol Buffers. This package contains the schema compiler and command-line encoder/decoder tools.

We can use yum or dnf to install capnproto on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install capnproto.

Install capnproto on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install capnproto using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install capnproto

Install capnproto on CentOS 8 Using yum

After updating yum database, We can install capnproto using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install capnproto

How To Uninstall capnproto on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the capnproto package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove capnproto
