Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install containerd
on Kali Linux.
What is containerd
containerd is:
Containerd is an industry-standard container runtime with an emphasis on
simplicity, robustness and portability. It is available as a daemon for
Linux and Windows, which can manage the complete container life cycle of
its host system: image transfer and storage, container execution and
supervision, low-level storage and network attachments, etc.
Containerd is designed to be embedded into a larger system, rather than
being used directly by developers or end-users.
This package contains the binaries.
There are three methods to install containerd
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install containerd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install containerd
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install containerd
Install containerd Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install containerd
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install containerd
Install containerd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install containerd
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install containerd
How To Uninstall containerd on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the containerd
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove containerd
Uninstall containerd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall containerd
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove containerd
Remove containerd Configurations and Data
To remove containerd
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge containerd
Remove containerd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove containerd
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge containerd
