In this tutorial we learn how to install dialog on Kali Linux.
What is dialog
dialog is:
This application provides a method of displaying several different types
of dialog boxes from shell scripts. This allows a developer of a script
to interact with the user in a much friendlier manner.
The following types of boxes are at your disposal:
yes/no Typical query style box with “Yes” and “No” answer buttons
menu A scrolling list of menu choices with single entry selection
input Query style box with text entry field
message Similar to the yes/no box, but with only an “Ok” button
text A scrollable text box that works like a simple file viewer
info A message display that allows asynchronous script execution
checklist Similar to the menu box, but allowing multiple selections
radiolist Checklist style box allowing single selections
gauge Typical “progress report” style box
tail Allows viewing the end of files (tail) that auto updates
background tail Similar to tail but runs in the background.
editbox Allows editing an existing file
There are three methods to install dialog on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dialog Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dialog using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dialog
Install dialog Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dialog using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install dialogInstall dialog Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dialog using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install dialogHow To Uninstall dialog on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the dialog package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dialogUninstall dialog And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dialog and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dialogRemove dialog Configurations and Data
To remove dialog configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dialog
Remove dialog configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove dialog configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dialogDependencies
