In this tutorial we learn how to install dirbuster on Kali Linux.
What is dirbuster
dirbuster is:
DirBuster is a multi threaded java application designed to
brute force directories and files names on web/application
servers. Often is the case now of what looks like a web
server in a state of default installation is actually not,
and has pages and applications hidden within. DirBuster
attempts to find these.
However tools of this nature are often as only good as the
directory and file list they come with. A different
approach was taken to generating this. The list was
generated from scratch, by crawling the Internet and
collecting the directory and files that are actually used
by developers! DirBuster comes a total of 9 different
lists, this makes DirBuster extremely effective at finding
those hidden files and directories. And if that was not
enough DirBuster also has the option to perform a pure
brute force, which leaves the hidden directories and files
nowhere to hide.
There are three methods to install dirbuster on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dirbuster Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dirbuster using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dirbusterInstall dirbuster Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dirbuster using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install dirbusterInstall dirbuster Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install dirbuster using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install dirbusterHow To Uninstall dirbuster on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the dirbuster package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dirbusterUninstall dirbuster And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dirbuster and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dirbusterRemove dirbuster Configurations and Data
To remove dirbuster configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dirbusterRemove dirbuster configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove dirbuster configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dirbusterDependencies
