Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install elinks
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is elinks
elinks is:
ELinks is a feature-rich program for browsing the web in text mode. It is
like enhanced Lynx and Links. The most noteworthy features of ELinks are:
- Lots of protocols (local files, finger, HTTP(S), FTP, IPv4/6 etc.)
- Internationalized domain names
- Persistent cookies, HTTP authentication and proxy authentication
- Tabbed browsing, good looking menus and dialogs, and key-binding manager
- History browsing and typeahead searches
- Forms history and completion, and history in commonly used input dialogs
- CSS support and support for browser scripting (Perl, Lua, Guile etc.)
- Tables and frames rendering, and configurable color support
- Compressed and background (non-blocking) downloads, and download resuming
This package is based on felinks fork, since original elinks seems to be no
longer maintained.
There are three methods to install elinks
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install elinks Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install elinks
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install elinks
Install elinks Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install elinks
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install elinks
Install elinks Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install elinks
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install elinks
How To Uninstall elinks on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the elinks
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove elinks
Uninstall elinks And Its Dependencies
To uninstall elinks
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove elinks
Remove elinks Configurations and Data
To remove elinks
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge elinks
Remove elinks configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove elinks
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge elinks
