Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install elpa-bm
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is elpa-bm
elpa-bm is:
Bm.el enables visible bookmarks in GNU Emacs.
Features:
- Navigate between bookmarks specific to the current buffer or cycle
through all buffers. When cycling through bookmarks in all open
buffers, the search will always wrap around. - Configurable wrapping modes when end of bookmark set is reached.
- Setting bookmarks based on a regexp, or on a line number.
- Goto the point of a bookmark or the beginning its line.
- Persistent bookmarks: They are non-persistent by default, but can
be automatically persisted on either a global or per-buffer basis. - Annotated bookmarks: The annotation is displayed in the message
area when navigating to a bookmark. - List bookmarks with annotations and context in a separate buffer.
- Different bookmark styles: fringe-only, line-only, or both.
- Experimental support for creating or removing a standard Emacs
filename-based bookmark every time one toggles a bm.el one.
There are three methods to install elpa-bm
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install elpa-bm Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-bm
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install elpa-bm
Install elpa-bm Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-bm
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install elpa-bm
Install elpa-bm Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-bm
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install elpa-bm
How To Uninstall elpa-bm on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the elpa-bm
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove elpa-bm
Uninstall elpa-bm And Its Dependencies
To uninstall elpa-bm
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove elpa-bm
Remove elpa-bm Configurations and Data
To remove elpa-bm
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge elpa-bm
Remove elpa-bm configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove elpa-bm
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge elpa-bm
