Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install elpa-persist
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is elpa-persist
elpa-persist is:
This package enables variables that persist across Emacs sessions.
The main entry point is persist-defvar', which behaves like
defvar’, but which persists the variables between sessions.
Variables are automatically saved when Emacs exits.
Other useful functions are persist-save', which saves the variable immediately,
persist-load’, which loads the saved value, and
`persist-reset’, which resets a variable to its default value.
Each persistent variable+value pair is stored in a unique file in a
subdirectory of ‘user-emacs-directory’.
There are three methods to install elpa-persist
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install elpa-persist Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-persist
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install elpa-persist
Install elpa-persist Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-persist
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install elpa-persist
Install elpa-persist Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install elpa-persist
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install elpa-persist
How To Uninstall elpa-persist on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the elpa-persist
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove elpa-persist
Uninstall elpa-persist And Its Dependencies
To uninstall elpa-persist
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove elpa-persist
Remove elpa-persist Configurations and Data
To remove elpa-persist
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge elpa-persist
Remove elpa-persist configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove elpa-persist
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge elpa-persist
