In this tutorial we learn how to install fetch-crl on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is fetch-crl

fetch-crl is:

This tool and associated timer (systemd) or cron (init.d) entry
ensure that Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs) are periodically
retrieved from the web sites of the respective Certification
Authorities.

The fetch-crl tool finds all *.crl_url files in the configured CRL
directory, downloads the CRLs listed in those files and saves them in
the same directory. The default configuration uses
/etc/grid-security/certificates as the CRL directory.

There are three methods to install fetch-crl on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install fetch-crl Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install fetch-crl using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install fetch-crl

Install fetch-crl Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install fetch-crl using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install fetch-crl using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install fetch-crl

How To Uninstall fetch-crl on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the fetch-crl package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove fetch-crl

Uninstall fetch-crl And Its Dependencies

To uninstall fetch-crl and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove fetch-crl

Remove fetch-crl Configurations and Data

To remove fetch-crl configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge fetch-crl

We can use the following command to remove fetch-crl configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
