Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install fpzip-utils on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is fpzip-utils
fpzip-utils is:
fpzip is a library and command-line utility for lossless and optionally lossy
compression of 2D and 3D floating-point arrays. fpzip assumes spatially
correlated scalar-valued data, such as regularly sampled continuous functions,
and is not suitable for compressing unstructured streams of floating-point
numbers.
This package provides command-line utilities.
There are three methods to install fpzip-utils on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install fpzip-utils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install fpzip-utils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install fpzip-utils

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install fpzip-utils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install fpzip-utils
Install fpzip-utils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install fpzip-utils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install fpzip-utils
How To Uninstall fpzip-utils on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the fpzip-utils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove fpzip-utils
Uninstall fpzip-utils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall fpzip-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove fpzip-utils
Remove fpzip-utils Configurations and Data
To remove fpzip-utils configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge fpzip-utils
Remove fpzip-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove fpzip-utils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge fpzip-utils
