Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install freecad-common
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is freecad-common
freecad-common is:
FreeCAD is an Open Source CAx RAD based on OpenCasCade, Qt and Python.
It features some key concepts like macro recording, workbenches, ability
to run as a server and dynamically loadable application extensions and
it is designed to be platform independent.
Currently, FreeCAD can import and display CAD models in IGES, STEP, and
BRep formats and meshes in STL, BMS, AST and Wavefront OBJ formats.
Editing and modeling features are currently somewhat limited.
This package contains FreeCAD common files and resources.
There are three methods to install freecad-common
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install freecad-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install freecad-common
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install freecad-common
Install freecad-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install freecad-common
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install freecad-common
Install freecad-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install freecad-common
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install freecad-common
How To Uninstall freecad-common on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the freecad-common
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove freecad-common
Uninstall freecad-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall freecad-common
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove freecad-common
Remove freecad-common Configurations and Data
To remove freecad-common
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge freecad-common
Remove freecad-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove freecad-common
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge freecad-common
