In this tutorial we learn how to install freeplane
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is freeplane
freeplane is:
Freeplane is a free and open source software application that supports
thinking, sharing information and getting things done at work, in school
and at home. The core of the software is tools for mind mapping (also
known as concept mapping or information mapping) and using mapped
information.
Occupying the middle ground between an editor and a diagramming tool,
Freeplane allows the user to add content as quickly and naturally as they
would in a text editor, yet producing structured content that can be
manipulated as easily as a diagram.
Features include ordering ideas in nodes and freely positionable
nodes, connecting nodes, automatic/conditional styles, scripting,
add-ons, LaTeX, search/filtering, different export features, printing,
password protection of nodes/maps and more.

There are three methods to install freeplane
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install freeplane Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install freeplane
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install freeplane
Install freeplane Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install freeplane
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install freeplane
Install freeplane Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install freeplane
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install freeplane
How To Uninstall freeplane on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the freeplane
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove freeplane
Uninstall freeplane And Its Dependencies
To uninstall freeplane
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove freeplane
Remove freeplane Configurations and Data
To remove freeplane
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge freeplane
Remove freeplane configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove freeplane
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge freeplane
