Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gvncviewer on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is gvncviewer
gvncviewer is:
It is built using coroutines, allowing it to be completely asynchronous while
remaining single threaded. It supports RFB protocols 3.3 through 3.8 and the
VeNCrypt authentication extension providing SSL/TLS encryption with x509
certificate authentication.
The core library is written in C and a bindings for other languages are
available via GObject introspection. The networking layer supports connections
over both IPv4 and IPv6.
This package contains the VNC viewer and VNC capture utility.
There are three methods to install gvncviewer on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gvncviewer Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gvncviewer using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gvncviewer
Install gvncviewer Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gvncviewer using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gvncviewer
Install gvncviewer Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gvncviewer using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gvncviewer
How To Uninstall gvncviewer on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the gvncviewer package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gvncviewer
Uninstall gvncviewer And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gvncviewer and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gvncviewer
Remove gvncviewer Configurations and Data
To remove gvncviewer configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gvncviewer
Remove gvncviewer configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gvncviewer configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gvncviewer
