What is heif-thumbnailer
heif-thumbnailer is:
libheif is an ISO/IEC 23008-12:2017 HEIF file format decoder. HEIF is a new
image file format employing HEVC (h.265) image coding for the best compression
ratios currently possible.
A thumbnailer for HEIF images that can be used by Nautilus is provided by this
package.
There are three methods to install heif-thumbnailer

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install heif-thumbnailer
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install heif-thumbnailer
How To Uninstall heif-thumbnailer on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the heif-thumbnailer
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove heif-thumbnailer
Uninstall heif-thumbnailer And Its Dependencies
To uninstall heif-thumbnailer
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove heif-thumbnailer
Remove heif-thumbnailer Configurations and Data
To remove heif-thumbnailer
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge heif-thumbnailer
Remove heif-thumbnailer configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove heif-thumbnailer
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge heif-thumbnailer
