Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install hijra-applet
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is hijra-applet
hijra-applet is:
Hijri Tray Applet for GNOME (also works with KDE) that uses Hijra Algorithm by
Muayyad Saleh Alsadi provided by python-hijra package.
This algorithm is based on integer operations which that there is no round
errors (given accurate coefficients) the accuracy of this algorithm is based
on 3 constants (p, q and a) where p/q is the full months percentage [ gcd(p,q)
must be 1 ] currently it is set to 191/360 which mean that there is 191 months
having 30 days in a span of 360 years, other months are 29 days, and a is just
a shift.
There are three methods to install hijra-applet
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install hijra-applet Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install hijra-applet
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install hijra-applet
Install hijra-applet Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install hijra-applet
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install hijra-applet
Install hijra-applet Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install hijra-applet
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install hijra-applet
How To Uninstall hijra-applet on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the hijra-applet
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove hijra-applet
Uninstall hijra-applet And Its Dependencies
To uninstall hijra-applet
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove hijra-applet
Remove hijra-applet Configurations and Data
To remove hijra-applet
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge hijra-applet
Remove hijra-applet configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove hijra-applet
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge hijra-applet
