Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install imagemagick
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is imagemagick
imagemagick is:
ImageMagick is a software suite to create, edit, and compose bitmap images.
It can read, convert and write images in a variety of formats (over 100)
including DPX, EXR, GIF, JPEG, JPEG-2000, PDF, PhotoCD, PNG, Postscript,
SVG, and TIFF. Use ImageMagick to translate, flip, mirror, rotate, scale,
shear and transform images, adjust image colors, apply various special
effects, or draw text, lines, polygons, ellipses and Bézier curves.
All manipulations can be achieved through shell commands as well as through
an X11 graphical interface (display).
This package include links to channel depth specific binaries and manual
pages.
This is a dummy package. You can safely purge or remove it.
There are three methods to install imagemagick
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install imagemagick Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install imagemagick
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install imagemagick
Install imagemagick Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install imagemagick
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install imagemagick
Install imagemagick Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install imagemagick
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install imagemagick
How To Uninstall imagemagick on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the imagemagick
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove imagemagick
Uninstall imagemagick And Its Dependencies
To uninstall imagemagick
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove imagemagick
Remove imagemagick Configurations and Data
To remove imagemagick
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge imagemagick
Remove imagemagick configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove imagemagick
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge imagemagick
