Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install java-package
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is java-package
java-package is:
This package provides the capability to build a Debian package from
a Java binary distribution by running make-jpkg.
(with archive files downloaded from providers listed below)
Supported java binary distributions currently include:
- Oracle (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads) :
- The Java Development Kit (JDK), version 6, 7 and 8
- The Java Runtime Environment (JRE), version 6, 7 and 8
- The Java API Javadoc, version 6, 7 and 8
Choose tar.gz archives or self-extracting archives (not RPM).
Please note that Debian recommends the use of openjdk-[78]-jdk and/or
openjdk-[78]-jre, which are installed by default-jdk or default-jre for
most architectures.
java-package will create non-free packages.
There are three methods to install java-package
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install java-package Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install java-package
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install java-package
Install java-package Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install java-package
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install java-package
Install java-package Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install java-package
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install java-package
How To Uninstall java-package on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the java-package
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove java-package
Uninstall java-package And Its Dependencies
To uninstall java-package
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove java-package
Remove java-package Configurations and Data
To remove java-package
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge java-package
Remove java-package configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove java-package
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge java-package
