Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install kwin-common on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is kwin-common
kwin-common is:
KWin (pronounced as one syllable “kwinâ€) is the window
manager for the KDE Plasma Desktop. It gives you complete
control over your windows, making sure they’re not in the way
but aid you in your task. It paints the window decoration,
the bar on top of every window with (configurable) buttons
like close, maximize and minimize. It also handles placing
of windows and switching between them.
This package is part of the KDE base workspace module.
There are three methods to install kwin-common on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install kwin-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install kwin-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install kwin-common
Install kwin-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install kwin-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install kwin-common
Install kwin-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install kwin-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install kwin-common
How To Uninstall kwin-common on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the kwin-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove kwin-common
Uninstall kwin-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall kwin-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove kwin-common
Remove kwin-common Configurations and Data
To remove kwin-common configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge kwin-common
Remove kwin-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove kwin-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge kwin-common
