Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libfolia-dev on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is libfolia-dev
libfolia-dev is:
FoLiA is an XML-based format for Linguistic Annotation suitable for
representing written language resources such as corpora.
Its goal is to unify a variety of linguistic annotations in one single rich
format, without committing to any particular standard annotation set.
Instead, it seeks to accommodate any desired system or tagset, and so offer
maximum flexibility. This makes FoLiA language independent.

libfolia is a product of the Centre of Language and Speech Technology, Radboud
University Nijmegen (The Netherlands), it was previously developed at the ILK
Research Group, Tilburg University. Work on libfolia is funded by NWO, the
Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research.
This package provides the FoLiA header files required to compile C++ programs
that use libfolia and implements FoLiA v2.2.1.
There are three methods to install libfolia-dev on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libfolia-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libfolia-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libfolia-dev
Install libfolia-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libfolia-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libfolia-dev
Install libfolia-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libfolia-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libfolia-dev
How To Uninstall libfolia-dev on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the libfolia-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libfolia-dev
Uninstall libfolia-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libfolia-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libfolia-dev
Remove libfolia-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libfolia-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libfolia-dev
Remove libfolia-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libfolia-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libfolia-dev
