Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libgap-dev on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is libgap-dev
libgap-dev is:
GAP is a system for computational discrete algebra, with particular emphasis
on Computational Group Theory. GAP provides a programming language, a library
of thousands of functions implementing algebraic algorithms written in the GAP
language as well as large data libraries of algebraic objects. GAP is used in
research and teaching for studying groups and their representations, rings,
vector spaces, algebras, combinatorial structures, and more.
This package contains the include files and static library.
There are three methods to install libgap-dev on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgap-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgap-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libgap-dev
Install libgap-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgap-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgap-dev
Install libgap-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgap-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgap-dev
How To Uninstall libgap-dev on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the libgap-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgap-dev
Uninstall libgap-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgap-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgap-dev
Remove libgap-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libgap-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgap-dev
Remove libgap-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libgap-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgap-dev
