Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libgc1 on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is libgc1
libgc1 is:
Boehm-Demers-Weiser’s GC is a garbage collecting storage allocator that is
intended to be used as a plug-in replacement for C’s malloc or C++’s new().
It allows you to allocate memory basically as you normally would without
explicitly deallocating memory that is no longer useful. The collector
automatically recycles memory when it determines that it can no longer be
used.
This version of the collector is thread safe, has C++ support and uses the
defaults for everything else. However, it does not work as a drop-in malloc(3)
replacement.
There are three methods to install libgc1 on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgc1 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgc1 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libgc1
Install libgc1 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgc1 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgc1
Install libgc1 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgc1 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgc1
How To Uninstall libgc1 on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the libgc1 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgc1
Uninstall libgc1 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgc1 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgc1
Remove libgc1 Configurations and Data
To remove libgc1 configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgc1
Remove libgc1 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libgc1 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgc1
