Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libgs9-common on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is libgs9-common
libgs9-common is:
GPL Ghostscript is used for PostScript/PDF preview and printing.
Usually as a back-end to a program such as ghostview, it can display
PostScript and PDF documents in an X11 environment.
This package provides common architecture-independent files needed by
the GPL Ghostscript library.
By default, GPL Ghostscript uses a font from the fonts-droid package to
approximate glyphs in PDFs for which the requested CJK TrueType font
is missing. If the fonts-droid package is not installed, these glyphs
will be rendered as bullets.
There are three methods to install libgs9-common on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgs9-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgs9-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libgs9-common
Install libgs9-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgs9-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgs9-common
Install libgs9-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgs9-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgs9-common
How To Uninstall libgs9-common on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libgs9-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgs9-common
Uninstall libgs9-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgs9-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgs9-common
Remove libgs9-common Configurations and Data
To remove libgs9-common configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgs9-common
Remove libgs9-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libgs9-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgs9-common
