What is libgsm1-dbg
libgsm1-dbg is:
This package contains debug symbols for libgsm, an implementation
of the European GSM 06.10 provisional standard for full-rate speech
transcoding, prI-ETS 300 036, which uses RPE/LTP (residual pulse
excitation/long term prediction) coding at 13 kbit/s.
GSM 06.10 compresses frames of 160 13-bit samples (8 kHz sampling
rate, i.e. a frame rate of 50 Hz) into 260 bits; for compatibility
with typical UNIX applications, our implementation turns frames of 160
16-bit linear samples into 33-byte frames (1650 Bytes/s).
The quality of the algorithm is good enough for reliable speaker
recognition; even music often survives transcoding in recognizable
form (given the bandwidth limitations of 8 kHz sampling rate).
The interfaces offered are a front end modelled after compress(1), and
a library API. Compression and decompression run faster than realtime
on most SPARCstations. The implementation has been verified against the
ETSI standard test patterns.
There are three methods to install libgsm1-dbg on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgsm1-dbg Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgsm1-dbg using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libgsm1-dbg

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgsm1-dbg using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgsm1-dbg
Install libgsm1-dbg Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgsm1-dbg using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgsm1-dbg
How To Uninstall libgsm1-dbg on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libgsm1-dbg package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgsm1-dbg
Uninstall libgsm1-dbg And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgsm1-dbg and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgsm1-dbg
Remove libgsm1-dbg Configurations and Data
To remove libgsm1-dbg configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgsm1-dbg
Remove libgsm1-dbg configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libgsm1-dbg configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgsm1-dbg
