Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install picon-usenix
on Kali Linux.
What is picon-usenix
picon-usenix is:
“picons” is short for “personal icons”. They’re small, constrained
images used to represent users and domains on the net, organized into
databases so that the appropriate image for a given e-mail address can
be found. Besides users and domains, there are picons databases for
Usenet newsgroups and weather forecasts. The picons are in either
monochrome XBM format or color XPM and GIF formats.
These databases have been compiled in hopes of helping make cyberspace
a more personable place. With them, software and services can be
developed to identify persons on the net by face (or, at least, by
institution logo) instead of by a cryptic e-mail address. Software of
this kind is for example xfaces and exmh.
There are three methods to install picon-usenix
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install picon-usenix Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install picon-usenix
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install picon-usenix
Install picon-usenix Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install picon-usenix
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install picon-usenix
Install picon-usenix Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install picon-usenix
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install picon-usenix
How To Uninstall picon-usenix on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the picon-usenix
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove picon-usenix
Uninstall picon-usenix And Its Dependencies
To uninstall picon-usenix
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove picon-usenix
Remove picon-usenix Configurations and Data
To remove picon-usenix
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge picon-usenix
Remove picon-usenix configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove picon-usenix
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge picon-usenix
