In this tutorial we learn how to install s-nail on Kali Linux.
What is s-nail
s-nail is:
S-nail is a mail processing system with a command syntax reminiscent
of ed(1) with lines replaced by messages. It is intended to provide
the functionality of the POSIX mailx(1) command and offers (mostly
optional) extensions for line editing, IDNA, MIME, S/MIME, SMTP and
POP3 (and IMAP). It is usable as a mail batch language. S-nail is a
derivative of Heirloom mailx, formerly known as nail, which
itself is based upon Berkeley Mail that has a history back to the 70s.
There are three methods to install s-nail on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install s-nail Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install s-nail using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install s-nail
Install s-nail Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install s-nail using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install s-nail
Install s-nail Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install s-nail using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install s-nail
How To Uninstall s-nail on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the s-nail package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove s-nail
Uninstall s-nail And Its Dependencies
To uninstall s-nail and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove s-nail
Remove s-nail Configurations and Data
To remove s-nail configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge s-nail
Remove s-nail configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove s-nail configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge s-nail
