In this tutorial we learn how to install sagemath on Kali Linux.
What is sagemath
sagemath is:
SageMath is a free open-source mathematics software system licensed under the
GPL. It builds on top of many existing open-source packages: NumPy, SciPy,
matplotlib, Sympy, Maxima, GAP, FLINT, R and many more. Access their combined
power through a common, Python-based language or directly via interfaces or
wrappers.
Mission: Creating a viable free open source alternative to Magma, Maple,
Mathematica and Matlab.
This package contains the main SageMath installation.
There are three methods to install sagemath on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sagemath Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sagemath using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sagemath
Install sagemath Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sagemath using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sagemath
Install sagemath Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sagemath using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sagemath
How To Uninstall sagemath on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the sagemath package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sagemath
Uninstall sagemath And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sagemath and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sagemath
Remove sagemath Configurations and Data
To remove sagemath configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sagemath
Remove sagemath configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sagemath configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sagemath
