Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install shotwell on Kali Linux.
What is shotwell
shotwell is:
Shotwell is a digital photo organizer designed for the GNOME desktop
environment. It allows you to import photos, pictures, images and videos
from disk or camera. Shotwell can organize them in collections and in other
various ways. The viewer shows them in full-window or fullscreen mode and
presents them as galleries or slideshows. The integrated editor can rotate,
flip, crop and tag the photos, adjust the colors und remove red eyes. Export
is possible to facebook, Flickr or Youtube to share with others. It is able
to manage a lot of image formats such as JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIFF and Raw CR2.
There are three methods to install shotwell on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install shotwell Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install shotwell using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install shotwellInstall shotwell Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install shotwell using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install shotwellInstall shotwell Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install shotwell using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install shotwellHow To Uninstall shotwell on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the shotwell package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove shotwellUninstall shotwell And Its Dependencies
To uninstall shotwell and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove shotwellRemove shotwell Configurations and Data
To remove shotwell configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge shotwellRemove shotwell configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove shotwell configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge shotwellDependencies
