Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install siege on Kali Linux.
What is siege
siege is:
Siege is an regression test and benchmark utility. It can stress test a single
URL with a user defined number of simulated users, or it can read many URLs
into memory and stress them simultaneously. The program reports the total
number of hits recorded, bytes transferred, response time, concurrency, and
return status. Siege supports HTTP/1.0 and 1.1 protocols, the GET and POST
directives, cookies, transaction logging, and basic authentication. Its
features are configurable on a per user basis.
Note: this package contains siege with HTTPS support turned on, thus it
obsoletes siege-ssl package now.
There are three methods to install siege on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install siege Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install siege using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install siegeInstall siege Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install siege using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install siegeInstall siege Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install siege using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install siegeHow To Uninstall siege on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the siege package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove siegeUninstall siege And Its Dependencies
To uninstall siege and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove siegeRemove siege Configurations and Data
To remove siege configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge siegeRemove siege configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove siege configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge siegeDependencies
