Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install snowball-data on Kali Linux.
What is snowball-data
snowball-data is:
Snowball provides access to efficient algorithms for calculating a
“stemmed” form of a word. This is a form with most of the common
morphological endings removed; hopefully representing a common
linguistic base form. This is most useful in building search engines
and information retrieval software; for example, a search with stemming
enabled should be able to find a document containing “cycling” given the
query “cycles”.
Snowball provides algorithms for several (mainly European) languages.
It also provides access to the classic Porter stemming algorithm for
English: although this has been superseded by an improved algorithm, the
original algorithm may be of interest to information retrieval
researchers wishing to reproduce results of earlier experiments.
This package contains the test data, which is used by Snowball test suite.
There are three methods to install snowball-data on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install snowball-data Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install snowball-data using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install snowball-data
Install snowball-data Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install snowball-data using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install snowball-dataInstall snowball-data Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install snowball-data using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install snowball-data
How To Uninstall snowball-data on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the snowball-data package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove snowball-data
Uninstall snowball-data And Its Dependencies
To uninstall snowball-data and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove snowball-data
Remove snowball-data Configurations and Data
To remove snowball-data configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge snowball-data
Remove snowball-data configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove snowball-data configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge snowball-data
