Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sparse on Kali Linux.
What is sparse
sparse is:
Sparse, the semantic parser, provides a compiler frontend capable of
parsing most of ANSI C as well as many GCC extensions, and a collection
of sample compiler backends, including a static analyzer also called
“sparse”. Sparse provides a set of annotations designed to convey
semantic information about types, such as what address space pointers
point to, or what locks a function acquires or releases.
Sparse can be invoked directly as “sparse” or via the “cgcc” wrapper
around the C compiler.
There are three methods to install sparse on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sparse Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sparse using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sparse
Install sparse Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sparse using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sparse
Install sparse Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
