Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install stenographer-common on Kali Linux.
What is stenographer-common
stenographer-common is:
Stenographer is a full-packet-capture utility for buffering packets
to disk for intrusion detection and incident response purposes. It
provides a high-performance implementation of NIC-to-disk packet
writing, handles deleting those files as disk fills up, and provides
methods for reading back specific sets of packets quickly and easily.
This package contains configuration common to client and server and
creates the Unix user and group needed for operation.
There are three methods to install stenographer-common on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install stenographer-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install stenographer-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install stenographer-commonInstall stenographer-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install stenographer-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install stenographer-common
Install stenographer-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install stenographer-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install stenographer-common
How To Uninstall stenographer-common on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the stenographer-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove stenographer-common
Uninstall stenographer-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall stenographer-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove stenographer-common
Remove stenographer-common Configurations and Data
To remove stenographer-common configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge stenographer-common
Remove stenographer-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove stenographer-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge stenographer-common
