Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install storebackup
on Kali Linux.
What is storebackup
storebackup is:
Copies directory hierarchies recursively into another location,
by date (e.g. /home/ => /var/bkup/2002.12.13_04.27.56/).
Permissions are preserved, so users with access to the backup
directory can recover their files themselves.
File comparisons are done with MD5 checksums, so no changes go
unnoticed.
Hard-links unchanged backuped files to old versions and
identical files within the backuped tree.
Compresses large files (that don’t match exclusion patterns).
Manages backups and removes old ones.
There are three methods to install storebackup
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install storebackup Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install storebackup
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install storebackup

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install storebackup
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install storebackup
Install storebackup Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install storebackup
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install storebackup
How To Uninstall storebackup on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the storebackup
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove storebackup
Uninstall storebackup And Its Dependencies
To uninstall storebackup
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove storebackup
Remove storebackup Configurations and Data
To remove storebackup
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge storebackup
Remove storebackup configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove storebackup
