In this tutorial we learn how to install swi-prolog-x on Kali Linux.
What is swi-prolog-x
swi-prolog-x is:
SWI-Prolog is a fast and powerful ISO/Edinburgh-style Prolog compiler with a
rich set of built-in predicates. It offers a fast, robust and small
environment which enables substantial applications to be developed with it.
SWI-Prolog additionally offers:
- A powerful module system
- Garbage collection
- Unicode character set handling
- Unbounted integer and rational number arithmetic
- Multithreading support
- A powerful C/C++ interface
- GNU Readline interface
XPCE is an object-oriented symbolic programming environment for user
interfaces. Although XPCE was designed to be language-independent, it has
gained popularity most with Prolog.
There are three methods to install swi-prolog-x on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install swi-prolog-x Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install swi-prolog-x using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install swi-prolog-xInstall swi-prolog-x Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install swi-prolog-x using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install swi-prolog-xInstall swi-prolog-x Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install swi-prolog-x using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install swi-prolog-x
How To Uninstall swi-prolog-x on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the swi-prolog-x package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove swi-prolog-x
Uninstall swi-prolog-x And Its Dependencies
To uninstall swi-prolog-x and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove swi-prolog-x
Remove swi-prolog-x Configurations and Data
To remove swi-prolog-x configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge swi-prolog-x
Remove swi-prolog-x configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove swi-prolog-x configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge swi-prolog-x
