Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sxid
on Kali Linux.
What is sxid
sxid is:
This program runs as a cronjob. Basically it tracks any changes in
your s[ug]id files and folders. If there are any new ones, ones that
aren’t set any more, or they have changed bits or other modes, then it
reports the changes. You can also run this manually for spot checking.
It tracks s[ug]id files by SHA-256 checksums. This helps detect if your files
have been tampered with, would not show under normal name and permissions
checking. Directories are tracked by inodes.
There are three methods to install sxid
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sxid Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sxid
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sxid

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sxid
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sxid
Install sxid Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sxid
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sxid
How To Uninstall sxid on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the sxid
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sxid
Uninstall sxid And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sxid
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sxid
Remove sxid Configurations and Data
To remove sxid
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sxid
Remove sxid configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sxid
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sxid
