What is 0install
0install is:
Zero Install is a decentralised cross-distribution software installation
system available under the LGPL. It allows software developers to publish
programs directly from their own web-sites, while supporting features familiar
from centralised distribution repositories such as shared libraries, automatic
updates and digital signatures. It is intended to complement, rather than
replace, the operating system’s package management. 0install packages never
interfere with those provided by the distribution.

install just the 0install-core package to avoid pulling in any GUI
dependencies.
There are three methods to install 0install
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get

and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install 0install Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install 0install
using apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install 0install
using apt
by running the following command:

Install 0install Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install 0install
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install 0install
How To Uninstall 0install on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the 0install
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove 0install
Uninstall 0install And Its Dependencies
To uninstall 0install
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove 0install
Remove 0install Configurations and Data
To remove 0install
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge 0install
Remove 0install configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove 0install
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge 0install
