Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install archmbox on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is archmbox
archmbox is:
Archmbox is a simple email archiver written in perl; it parses one or
more mailboxes, selects some or all messages and then performs specific
actions on the selected messages.
At this time archmbox supports mbox and mbx mailbox formats.
Messages selection is based upon a date criteria; an absolute date
or a days offset can be specified. It is also possible to refine the
selection using regular expressions on the header fields of the message.
All archived messages are stored in a new mailbox with the same name
of the original one plus .archived as extension (this is the default, but
can be changed); the archive mailbox can be saved in gz or bz2
compressed format as well.
There are three methods to install archmbox on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install archmbox Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install archmbox using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install archmbox
Install archmbox Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install archmbox using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install archmbox
Install archmbox Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install archmbox using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install archmbox
How To Uninstall archmbox on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the archmbox package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove archmbox
Uninstall archmbox And Its Dependencies
To uninstall archmbox and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove archmbox
Remove archmbox Configurations and Data
To remove archmbox configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge archmbox
Remove archmbox configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove archmbox configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge archmbox
