In this tutorial we learn how to install arctica-greeter
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is arctica-greeter
arctica-greeter is:
A greeter shell for the LightDM login manager. Arctica Greeter can be used as
local display manager as well as thin client login manager.
Arctica Greeter has been forked from Ubuntu’s Unity Greeter with focus on
keeping remote logon support a maintained feature and provide a user interface
based on Ayatana Indicators.
Arctica Greeter can be extended with various features:
- remote logon support against RDP, Arctica and X2Go Servers
- guest session support
- various themes available / providable
There are three methods to install arctica-greeter
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install arctica-greeter Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install arctica-greeter
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install arctica-greeter
Install arctica-greeter Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install arctica-greeter
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install arctica-greeter
Install arctica-greeter Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install arctica-greeter
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install arctica-greeter
How To Uninstall arctica-greeter on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the arctica-greeter
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove arctica-greeter
Uninstall arctica-greeter And Its Dependencies
To uninstall arctica-greeter
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove arctica-greeter
Remove arctica-greeter Configurations and Data
To remove arctica-greeter
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge arctica-greeter
Remove arctica-greeter configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove arctica-greeter
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge arctica-greeter
