on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is boinc
boinc is:
The Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) is a
software platform for distributed computing: several initiatives of
various scientific disciplines all compete for the idle time of
desktop computers. The developers’ web site at the University of
Berkeley serves as a common portal to the otherwise independently run
projects.
This package depends both on the BOINC core client program that is
required to participate in any project that uses BOINC, and the
BOINC Manager, a graphical monitor and control utility for the
BOINC core client.
There are three methods to install boinc
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install boinc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install boinc
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install boinc
Install boinc Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install boinc
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install boinc
Install boinc Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install boinc
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install boinc
How To Uninstall boinc on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the boinc
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove boinc
Uninstall boinc And Its Dependencies
To uninstall boinc
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove boinc
Remove boinc Configurations and Data
To remove boinc
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge boinc
Remove boinc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove boinc
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge boinc
