Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install bro-aux on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is bro-aux
bro-aux is:
This package provides handy auxiliary programs related to the use of the
Bro Network Security Monitor.
The “adtrace” utility is used to compute the network address that compose
the internal and extern nets that bro is monitoring. The “bro-cut” utility
reads ASCII Bro logs on standard input and outputs them with only the
specified columns (if no column names are specified, then all columns are
output). The “nfcollector” and “ftwire2bro” utilities are for dealing with
Bro’s custom file format for storing NetFlow records.
There are three methods to install bro-aux on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install bro-aux Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install bro-aux using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install bro-aux
Install bro-aux Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install bro-aux using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install bro-aux
Install bro-aux Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install bro-aux using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install bro-aux
How To Uninstall bro-aux on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the bro-aux package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove bro-aux
Uninstall bro-aux And Its Dependencies
To uninstall bro-aux and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove bro-aux
Remove bro-aux Configurations and Data
To remove bro-aux configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge bro-aux
Remove bro-aux configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove bro-aux configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge bro-aux
