The GStreamer multimedia framework and the accompanying NLE set of
plugins for non-linear editing offer all the building blocks for:
- Decoding and encoding to a wide variety of formats, through all the
available GStreamer plugins. - Easily choosing segments of streams and arranging them through time
through the NLE set of plugins.
But all those building blocks only offer stream-level access, which
results in developers who want to write non-linear editors to write a
consequent amount of code to get to the level of non-linear editing
notions which are closer and more meaningful for the end-user
(and therefore the application).
The GStreamer Editing Services (GES) aims to fill the gap between
GStreamer/NLE and the application developer by offering a series
of classes to simplify the creation of many kind of editing-related
applications.
This package contains command-line tools for GStreamer editing
services.
There are three methods to install ges1.0-tools on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ges1.0-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ges1.0-tools using apt-get by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ges1.0-tools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ges1.0-tools
How To Uninstall ges1.0-tools on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the ges1.0-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ges1.0-tools
Uninstall ges1.0-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ges1.0-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ges1.0-tools
Remove ges1.0-tools Configurations and Data
To remove ges1.0-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ges1.0-tools
Remove ges1.0-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ges1.0-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ges1.0-tools
