Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gwyddion
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is gwyddion
gwyddion is:
Gwyddion is a modular program for Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) data
visualization and analysis. It is primarily intended for analysis of height
field data obtained by microscopy techniques like
- Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM),
- Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM),
- Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM),
- Near-field Scanning Optical Microscopy (SNOM or NSOM)
and others. However, it can be used for arbitrary height field and
image analysis.
This package contains the main application and its modules. It also contains
a GNOME (and Xfce) thumbnailer which creates previews for all file types known
to Gwyddion.
There are three methods to install gwyddion
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gwyddion Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gwyddion
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gwyddion
Install gwyddion Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gwyddion
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gwyddion
Install gwyddion Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gwyddion
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gwyddion
How To Uninstall gwyddion on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the gwyddion
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gwyddion
Uninstall gwyddion And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gwyddion
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gwyddion
Remove gwyddion Configurations and Data
To remove gwyddion
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gwyddion
Remove gwyddion configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gwyddion
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gwyddion
