Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ibritish
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is ibritish
ibritish is:
This package provides the standard, medium-sized British English dictionary,
based on the britishmed+ dictionary supplied with the source for ispell, with
additional words added from the more comprehensive wbritish word list package.
There are also -small, -large, -huge, and -insane versions of this dictionary,
and there are iamerican* packages as well.
The package also suggests wbritish because ispell’s (L)ookup command
needs a word list.
There are three methods to install ibritish
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ibritish Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ibritish
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ibritish

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ibritish
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ibritish
Install ibritish Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ibritish
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ibritish
How To Uninstall ibritish on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the ibritish
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ibritish
Uninstall ibritish And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ibritish
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ibritish
Remove ibritish Configurations and Data
To remove ibritish
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ibritish
Remove ibritish configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ibritish
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
